What’s great about Girl Scout camp? Everything!

We offer many opportunities for Girl Scouts to enjoy camping. Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana has seven properties with hundreds of acres throughout Kentucky and Southern Indiana available for camping activities.

Each camp has a unique outdoor setting and has been developed with a particular type of camping and set of activities in mind. Whether you want a rustic, back-to-nature experience or all the comforts of modern amenities (and indoor plumbing!), we have the perfect location.

We're all over the map!

Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana has seven camp properties throughout the council. There is a camp property within two hours of all members of our council, and most members are significantly closer. Some of the camps are groomed and tamed; some are more wild and natural. Properties in the council range from a 12 acre park like facility to a 1,400 acre wooded wilderness, and each provides a unique experience for the camper.

  • Barren Ridge is a 220-acre camp on the Barren River Reservoir near Glasgow, KY.
  • Bear Creek Aquatic Camp is a 183-acre camp on the shores of Kentucky Lake near Benton, KY, and is accredited by the American Camp Association (ACA).
  • Camp Pennyroyal is a 180-acre camp with an 8-acre lake, in Utica just 15 minutes from Owensboro, KY.
  • Camp Shantituck is a 112-acre camp on Cedar Creek near Sheperdsville, KY with an outdoor pool.
  • Camp Whippoorwill is a 107-acre camp near Madison, IN.
  • Houchens Program Center is a 12-acre camp on the Barren River near Bowling Green, KY
  • Stem Adventure Center is a 1,400-acre camp on the Ohio River in Laconia, IN.

Reserving a Camp Property

  1. Choose your location. TIP: Be sure to reserve the property BEFORE the program to ensure you have a space available.
  2. If applicable, choose your program that you would like to reserve. Currently, the programs available to reserve include archery, sling shots, canoeing, kayaking, paddleboarding, teams course, caving, and swimming. TIP: Be sure to reserve the property BEFORE the program to ensure space is available.
  3. Check the Current Reservation Calendar to see if your dates and locations are available. Reservations are accepted no earlier than seven months prior to your reservation date. The seven-month window is a “rolling” window. Each day of the month opens another day for reservations seven months in advance.
  4. Make your reservation. Follow the Doubleknot reservation instructions to reserve the property and program (if applicable).
  5. Review your confirmation. An email confirmation will be sent the week of your reservation. Please note: the email will be sent to the person who made the reservation. Review this important information, because it includes check-in/check-out details, emergency procedures, and more.
  6. Determine if you will need extra equipment. Need extra equipment for your camping trip or small event? Fill out the Extra Equipment Request Form.
  7. Determine if you will need a program facilitator. When preparing for any activity with girls, always begin with the Safety Activity Checkpoints (SACs) written specifically for that particular activity. Here, you will be able to determine if you need a program facilitator. As we work on improving access to outdoor programming, Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana is not currently taking requests for outdoor facilitators. At this time, please reach out to your fellow volunteers who may be able to help. Girl Scout social media groups can be a helpful resource. The best way to ensure that you have a facilitator for your outdoor adventure is to become one yourself! Learn how by clicking here.
